As a response to the dire state of Family Harm within Aotearoa; Whangaia Ngā Pā Harakeke is a national initiative that focuses on reducing and preventing Family Harm and the impact on those whānau who are enduring or at risk. It is a model that requires Police to create collaborative approaches that are designed at a local level with Iwi, community, and partner agencies.
Te Tihi o Ruahine are supporting the establishment of a localised approach for Whangaia Ngā Pā Harakeke – through the development of Collective Impact infrastructure and the design of the first High Leverage Activity.
The local approach acknowledges that Family Harm supports are located across all sectors and we all have a shared responsibility; to create opportunities, services and engagements that actively acknowledge the mana of whānau; and implement and celebrates diverse systems of knowledge and approaches for change; and to make all people and communities feel like they belong and can meaningfully participate in society.
This approach embodies a collective coordinated commitment to weave a new way forward alongside whānau so that they may thrive and achieve their own happiness.
