Te Tihi o Ruahine have a collective aspiration to meaningfully exercise and maintain Data Sovereignty. This mahi showcases the opportunity to strategically scale our learnings to realise each members Mana Motuhake.
Across multiple projects and programmes Te Tihi is capturing large amounts of whānau data. Te Tihi as indigenous peoples believe data access and use should be underpinned by the principles of Data Sovereignty.
As kaitiaki within our data environment it is pertinent we ensure Data Sovereignty is understood, is actualised into usable tools, maintains a strength-based approach to data analysis and implements robust security protocols. Also, significant to Data Sovereignty is maintaining the rights of whānau (those who the data is about) to have mandate of use, access and dissemination. Development of our data policy environment is underpinned by the guiding principles of Te Tihi o Ruahine ensuring our data ecosystem encapsulates and elevates a Māori world view.
